John Finneran at work on Night Mountains (Tulette)

Non-Objectif Sud (NOS) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.

NOS is conceived for the purpose of inviting artists and curators to participate in organizing exhibitions and artist residencies. NOS supports and promotes artistic and curatorial practices, thus encouraging and broadening the appreciation of contemporary art with an emphasis on but not limited to non-objective and abstract art. Such art is expressed in many different media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography, video and film.

NOS is committed to presenting contemporary art in an environment set outside the daily pressures and demands of the main urban centres of international art production. The exhibition and residency programs take place at La Barralière, a farm house located just outside of Tulette, Drôme Provençale in the south of France. Here, international artists and curators can collaborate together on exhibitions in a collegial and creative environment. La Barralière and La Biette, an adjacent guest house, are available to the artists to live and work in. In this bucolic setting, artists can find the time and leisure to pursue specific projects.

The focal point of the exhibition consists in a short residency which the artists are invited to take part in, create work on site and install an exhibition which culminates into an opening day for the public and remains open throughout the summer. The exhibition and the residency are documented with a catalogue edited and published by NOS in a concerted effort to assist the artists’ careers.

To support its exhibition and artist residency programs, NOS organizes an annual benefit that includes art works for sale donated by artists and that is open to a broad public. Moreover, NOS sells art works donated by artists on its website.

NOS was founded by Andrew Huston and Karole Vail. They organize the annual benefit and exhibition/residency programs, provide logistical and support services, including overall management, preparation and installation, as well as press, opening and advertising events.
