Non-Objectif Sud, in collaboration with Lisa Jacobs Fine Art, is pleased to present Dennis Bellone Paintings 1990-2010. This is the first New York solo exhibition of New York based artist Dennis Bellone. Housed at 11 Scholes Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, this is the first in a series of pop-up gallery exhibitions organized by Non-Objectif Sud with Lisa Jacobs Fine Art.

Dennis Bellone has been experimenting for more than 20 years with different art styles and subject matter as well as with a variety of materials and techniques. While he has exhibited his film, photographic and performance based works worldwide, his creative diversity is demonstrated powerfully in a group of paintings that he has been working on from 1990-2010. Bellone applies a stark white ground layer which becomes the foundation for his demonstrative surfaces, abstract forms, and lines of pure color. The resulting works skeptically render subjectivity relative, and by externalizing interpretation show precisely how a picture may cohere before us as just that – as a picture, and nothing more. Variously spare, animated, and richly hued, Bellone’s paintings demonstrate a striking formal and emotional range.

He gained notoriety in Belgium when he challenged curator Jan Hoet (the director of S.M.A.K) to a boxing match in 1999. Bellone has exhibited his film, photographic and performance based work worldwide and he is represented in the collections of the Centre Pompidou in Paris and S.M.A.K. in Ghent.
